The ISCAR 6405413 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting, grooving, and turning operations on Swiss-type and conventional CNC lathes. This insert carries the manufacturer part designation SCIR 22-250NP05 and falls within the Swisscut series. It features a 2.5 mm cutting width, an overall length of 22.00 mm (0.8661 inches), and is manufactured in IC1008 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The neutral lead angle and right-hand orientation suit the majority of standard Swiss-type bar-turning setups. Insert holding is by screw clamp, and the single-end configuration keeps the cutting geometry consistent throughout the insert life.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and turning applications on a wide variety of workpiece materials including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and other universal workpiece material groups. The IC1008 grade with PVD coating performs well in finishing and semi-finishing cuts where surface integrity and edge sharpness are priorities. It is commonly used in Swiss-screw machining cells, gang-tool lathes, and sliding-headstock CNC applications where tight tolerances and small part diameters are standard. The P chipbreaker geometry supports chip control in general-purpose turning and parting passes.
The SCIR 22-250NP05 insert fits toolholders and systems within the ISCAR Swisscut series that accept the SCIR insert style in size code 22. Compatible workpiece material groups per manufacturer data include ISO P, M, K, N, H, and S material codes, covering carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, hardened materials, and superalloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Confirm the insert is fully seated in the pocket and that the screw is torqued per the toolholder documentation before resuming cutting operations.
