The ISCAR 6405277 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running under the Sumo-Grip series, it carries the TAGB insert style with a grade designation of IC808 and a multi-layer PVD coating of AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN. The cutting width measures 6 mm (0.2362 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 3 mm (0.1180 inches). The insert features a positive rake geometry and a corner radius of 3 mm, making it well suited for controlled chip formation in high-feed applications. It is installed via a clamp-style holder and is intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians in production turning environments.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range encompasses hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. The Sumo-Grip clamping system provides rigid insert seating, which is critical when grooving at consistent depths across high-volume part runs. The Y chip breaker geometry aids in chip control during interrupted cuts and when working with materials that tend to produce long, stringy chips. This insert conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards, which simplifies integration with CAM software and digital tool management systems.
Designed for use with ISCAR Sumo-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the TAGB insert style in size 630. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as designated by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the Sumo-Grip toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before inserting to ensure proper contact. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut range of 3 mm to 4 mm as specified for this insert size.
