The ISCAR 6405265 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the GPV8234 style designation with an IC8250 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied Al2O3 coating that supports high cutting performance on demanding workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to a range of toolholder configurations. With a cutting width of 7.48 mm (0.2945 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.21 mm (0.0870 inches), it is built for precise, controlled grooving passes in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this insert type.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Cut-Grip series and is intended for grooving applications on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces. It is suited for both light and moderate-duty grooving in job shop and production settings where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are required. The insert seats into compatible Cut-Grip toolholders using a clamp holding method. The positive rake angle of 7 degrees supports reduced cutting forces, which is beneficial when machining stainless steel grades prone to work hardening.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GPV-style inserts with an 8234 insert size designation. Compatible primary workpiece materials include stainless steel (ISO material code M) and carbon and alloy steel (ISO material code P).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling setup personnel. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool turret locked out before replacing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications when securing the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and geometry repeatability.
