The ISCAR 6405250 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the manufacturer grade IC8250 and insert style designation GIF528020F. It is designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 5.28 mm (0.208 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 13 mm (0.512 inch), making it well suited for medium-depth grooving work. The PVD-applied Al2O3 coating combined with the IC8250 carbide grade provides wear resistance and thermal stability. A neutral hand orientation and positive rake angle of 7 degrees support consistent chip evacuation. Machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians specify this insert for production turning applications.
This insert fits within the Cut-Grip series and is primarily intended for machining stainless steel and steel workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups M and P. The double-ended design allows both ends of the insert to be used, extending service life per insert. The F chip breaker geometry supports chip control across a range of feed rates typical in grooving and light parting operations. It is held in the toolholder by a clamp-style insert holding method, consistent with Cut-Grip series toolholders. Applications include groove turning in high-volume production environments where dimensional accuracy and surface finish consistency are required.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept GIF-style inserts with a 528020 size code. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO group M) and steel (ISO group P). Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed away from the work zone before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and engage the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer torque procedure before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate seating.
