The ISCAR 6405239 is a solid carbide double-ended grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving, parting, and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under grade IC8250 with a CVD-applied Al2O3 coating, this insert delivers strong wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The neutral hand orientation and self-grip holding method make it a direct drop-in for compatible Cut-Grip toolholders. With a cutting width of 3.18 mm (0.1250 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 12.19 mm (0.4800 inches), it is well suited for medium-depth grooving work on both external and internal applications.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent groove width and surface finish are critical. The IC8250 grade is optimized for stainless steel and steel workpieces, where CVD alumina coatings help manage heat and extend tool life. This insert is installed and changed by CNC machinists or tooling technicians; always index the machine spindle to a safe stop and disable the machine before handling cutting inserts. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamping key for the self-grip holder to ensure proper seating without over-torquing the clamping mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert, as debris in the pocket can cause premature edge failure or dimensional variation. Dispose of worn carbide inserts according to applicable shop safety and environmental regulations.
