The ISCAR 6405212 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, identified by the GIFI400040E insert designation and IC8250 manufacturer grade. It carries a PVD-applied Al2O3 coating and features a positive rake angle of 8 degrees, supporting efficient chip evacuation during grooving operations. With a cutting width of 4 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm, this insert is designed for precision grooving, parting, and profiling on CNC lathes and turning centers. Installation and tool changes are handled by machinists and CNC operators using clamp-style toolholding systems compatible with the GIFI insert seat.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on stainless steel and steel workpieces in both production and job-shop turning environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it appropriate for standard radial grooving applications. The E chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during moderate-depth grooving passes. It conforms to ISO 13399 standards, making it compatible with digital tool management and presetting workflows used in modern machining facilities.
Designed as a replacement-style grooving insert for Cut-Grip series clamp-style toolholders accepting the GIFI insert style and 400040 insert size designation. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded M and P under ISO classification, corresponding to stainless steel and steel.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully into the GIFI-compatible pocket and secure the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure before returning the machine to operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper clamping force and insert orientation. Grooving insert changes on CNC turning centers should follow the facility's lockout/tagout procedures.
