The ISCAR 6405209 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the manufacturer designation GIPI300040E in grade IC8250. It belongs to the Cut-Grip series and is designed for external grooving, parting, and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 3.00 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 1.50 mm, and a 0.40 mm corner radius. The PVD-applied Al2O3 coating enhances wear resistance and heat management at the cutting edge. A positive rake angle of 8 degrees and chip breaker style E support controlled chip formation during interrupted or continuous cuts. The insert is double-ended, providing two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting operations on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces in production turning environments. The IC8250 grade is formulated for these material groups, covering ISO material codes M and P. Typical applications include recessing, undercut profiling, and snap-ring groove machining on shaft components, fittings, and turned parts. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard toolholders in the Cut-Grip clamping system. This insert is used by machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production facilities, and precision machining operations.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept GIPI-style inserts with a 300040 insert size designation. Verified compatible workpiece materials include stainless steel (ISO code M) and steel (ISO code P).
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and lockout condition per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp is properly engaged before initiating a cut. Inspect the cutting edge and seating surface for chips or debris before each insert index. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamp screw and do not exceed recommended depth-of-cut parameters for the workpiece material.
