The ISCAR 6405208 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, carrying the GIFI400200E geometry and IC8250 grade with a PVD-applied Al2O3 finish. Designed for turning and grooving operations, it delivers a 4 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm. The full-radius corner profile (2 mm radius) and positive rake angle of 8 degrees combine to promote smooth chip flow and reduce cutting forces. The double-ended design extends usable tool life. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working on lathes and turning centers equipped with compatible Cut-Grip clamp-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and profiling operations on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces, covering ISO material groups M and P. The E chip breaker geometry and positive rake support stable cuts in these work materials. It fits into clamp-style Cut-Grip toolholders designed to accept the GIFI insert style with a 400200 size code. Typical applications include external grooving on turned components in job shops, production machining facilities, and maintenance toolrooms running small-to-medium batch work.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style toolholders that accept the GIFI insert style with a 400200 size code. Optimized for machining stainless steel (ISO group M) and carbon and alloy steel (ISO group P) workpieces. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before seating the insert, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all axes are locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Clean the insert pocket and clamping surfaces of any chips or debris before placing the insert to ensure proper seating and edge alignment. Do not overtighten the clamp screw; follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidelines for the specific holder in use.
