The ISCAR 6405181 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIFI insert style in grade IC830, this double-ended insert features a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating that extends tool life when cutting superalloys and titanium. The cutting width is 5.00 mm (0.197 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 2.50 mm (0.098 inches) and a full corner radius of 2.50 mm (0.098 inches). A positive rake angle of 8 degrees and E-style chip breaker geometry support controlled chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces in demanding materials. It belongs to the Cut-Grip series and is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder.
This insert is intended for use in metalworking applications where tight groove tolerances are required in difficult-to-machine materials, primarily superalloys, titanium, and steel (ISO material codes M, P, and S). The double-ended design allows the operator to index to a fresh cutting edge without changing the insert body, making it well suited for production turning environments where uptime and consistency matter. The IC830 grade and PVD coating combination targets applications demanding high wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series clamp-style toolholders that accept the GIFI insert style and 500250 insert size. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a safe, powered-down or locked-out state before any tool change. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before securing the insert, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or poor dimensional accuracy. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut of 2.50 mm.
