The ISCAR 6405154 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIP478055E designation and IC830 manufacturer grade, designed for use in Cut-Grip series toolholders on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 4.78 mm (0.188 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.80 mm (0.110 inch). A PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating delivers thermal resistance and edge hardness suited to interrupted cuts and high-heat applications. The double-ended design extends usable tool life per insert. This insert is engineered for grooving and parting operations with a neutral hand orientation, making it compatible with both left- and right-approach tooling setups. CNC machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert type by securing it in the appropriate Cut-Grip clamping toolholder using the designated clamp screw and torx key supplied with the holder. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the control placed in E-stop or lockout-tagout condition before any insert change. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or contamination before seating the insert. Confirm correct insert orientation for neutral-hand operation before resuming cuts.
