The ISCAR 6405152 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIPI insert style designation and manufactured to grade IC830, it features an AlTiN and TiN PVD coating that supports high cutting speeds in demanding applications. The insert delivers a 5 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 3.1 mm and a 0.50 mm corner radius. With a positive rake angle of 8 degrees and a double-ended configuration, it maximizes tool life and usability. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in precision turning environments.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting operations where superalloys, titanium, and steel are the primary workpiece materials. The E chip breaker geometry and positive rake are optimized for these material groups. The double-ended design allows both ends to be indexed, making it a practical choice for high-volume production turning environments where tool change frequency and insert cost per edge matter. The IC830 grade is well-regarded for performance on difficult-to-machine alloys at moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIPI insert style with size code 500050. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes superalloys, titanium, and steel (ISO material codes M, P, and S). Conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out state before any insert change. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamp surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications only. Inspect the insert seating and edge condition before resuming cutting operations.
