The ISCAR 6405115 is the GIP635080E grooving insert in grade IC808, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This double-ended insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, providing high wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. It features a 6.35 mm (0.2500 inch) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 3.80 mm (0.1496 inch), and a 0.80 mm (0.0315 inch) corner radius. The neutral hand orientation and positive 7-degree rake angle reduce cutting forces and improve chip flow. It is installed by machinists and CNC tool setup technicians in production turning environments.
This insert belongs to ISCAR Cut-Grip series and is suited for universal workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. The E chip breaker geometry and positive rake promote controlled chip formation across this broad material spectrum. Typical applications include grooving to depth ranges of 3.00 mm to 4.00 mm (0.1000 inch to 0.1500 inch) in medium to high-volume turning operations where consistent groove width and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders accepting GIP-style inserts with size code 635E080. Compatible with the MSC/Manufacturer reference GIP 6.35E-0.80.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all axes locked out before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR Cut-Grip clamping key to secure the insert fully before resuming operation. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated depth of cut for the insert grade and chip breaker in use.
