The ISCAR 6405101 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying grade IC808 and designed for use in the Cut-Grip series of grooving and parting toolholders. It features a 5.00 mm (0.197 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.118 inch), making it well suited for precision external and internal grooving operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert is neutral hand, uses a clamp-style holding method, and carries a PVD-applied multilayer coating of AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. A positive 7-degree rake angle and a 0.60 mm corner radius contribute to controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and lathe technicians install this insert in production turning environments.
This insert is intended for grooving and parting-off applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. The IC808 grade is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless), K (cast iron), H (hardened), and S (superalloys). The chip breaker style E geometry supports consistent chip evacuation across this broad material range. It is appropriate for both light-production and high-volume turning cells where repeatable groove dimensions are required.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the GIP 500060 insert size. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups P, M, K, H, and S as indicated by the IC808 grade designation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the turret indexed to a safe position before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping key to seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket; do not force the insert with non-designated tools. Confirm insert orientation is neutral before resuming cutting operations.
