The ISCAR 6405084 is a solid carbide double-ended grooving insert carrying the GIP157015 geometry in the IC830 manufacturer grade. It is designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 1.57 mm (0.0620 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.70 mm (0.1063 inch). A PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating provides thermal resistance and edge wear protection suited to interrupted cuts and demanding work materials. The positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces, and the clamp-style holding method locks the insert securely into compatible Cut-Grip toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered for use on superalloys and titanium as the primary workpiece materials, making it well suited for aerospace, medical, and energy-sector component machining. The double-ended design extends usable insert life by providing two cutting edges per insert. The GIP style with a 0.15 mm (0.0060 inch) corner radius and a non-full-radius geometry supports precision groove profiles in tight tolerances. It fits within the maximum depth of cut range of 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm (0.1000 inch to 0.1500 inch), covering a broad range of groove depth requirements in production turning environments.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIP insert style in the 157015 size code. Primary workpiece material codes M, P, and S indicate suitability for steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium applications.
Insert changes should be performed with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and all axes at a safe rest position. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping key or torque wrench specified for the toolholder to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
