The ISCAR 6405082 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precise grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the IC830 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating, providing wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. It features a 0.315 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.189 inches, making it suitable for medium-depth grooving passes. The double-ended design extends usable tool life. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and a chip breaker geometry support controlled chip formation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct replacement in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning applications involving superalloys and titanium as the primary workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M, P, and S. It fits standard Cut-Grip clamping systems where an 808 insert size is specified. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of grooving approaches. The Y-style chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and light roughing passes in difficult-to-machine materials where chip control is critical. This insert is typically used in production and job-shop environments where tight groove tolerances and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders accepting an 808 insert size designation. Compatible workpiece materials include superalloys and titanium as indicated by ISO material codes M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate clamping screw torque driver specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or damage before each insert change to maintain positional accuracy and safe clamping force.
