The ISCAR 6405069 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precise grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC830 grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting environments. The insert features a 3.18 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 13 mm, making it well-suited for medium-depth grooving passes. It uses a clamp-style holding method and is double-ended, providing two usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
This insert is intended for grooving and turning of superalloys and titanium, as indicated by the primary workpiece material designations M, P, and S. The neutral hand orientation allows it to be run in standard right-hand toolholders compatible with the Cut-Grip clamping system. With a rake angle of 7 degrees and a positive rake geometry with a P chip breaker, the insert promotes controlled chip formation when cutting difficult-to-machine materials. It conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation, making integration with CAM and tool management systems straightforward.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIP 318020 insert size. Compatible with turning and grooving applications targeting superalloy and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp to ensure proper contact and rigidity. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can affect insert orientation and tool life. Refer to the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and ISCAR cutting data recommendations for feed rate and speed when setting up for the target workpiece material.
