The ISCAR 6405056 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIP300040E insert style with a 3.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm. The IC830 grade substrate is coated via PVD with an AlTiN and TiN finish, making it well-suited for elevated-temperature cutting conditions. The double-ended configuration and positive 7-degree rake angle promote clean chip flow and extend tool life. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in precision machining environments.
This insert is primarily intended for grooving, parting, and profiling applications on superalloys and titanium workpieces, as indicated by the primary workpiece material classification. The positive rake geometry and E chip breaker configuration help manage chip control in these difficult-to-machine materials. It is appropriate for both production and job-shop turning applications where tight groove tolerances are required. The neutral hand orientation supports use on standard external grooving toolholders in the Cut-Grip system. This insert fits turning operations in aerospace, medical, and general precision manufacturing contexts.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIP insert style with a 300040 insert size. Compatible primary workpiece materials include superalloys and titanium, per the manufacturer classification codes M, P, and S.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate clamp key or torx wrench specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to seat the insert securely before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm to avoid insert fracture or toolholder damage.
