Product Description

The ISCAR 6405038 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIP157015X designation with a 1.57 mm (0.0618 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.70 mm (0.1063 inch). The IC830 grade features a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted cuts and high-speed passes. The double-ended design extends usable insert life. Installation and replacement are handled by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians.

This insert is primarily suited for machining superalloys and titanium, making it appropriate for aerospace, medical, and high-performance industrial applications where tight tolerances and difficult-to-machine materials are the norm. The positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces on thin-walled or delicate workpiece features. The X chip breaker geometry assists with chip control during grooving in gummy or stringy materials. It is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder compatible with the Cut-Grip system.
