The ISCAR 6405023 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIG230020G geometry designation and IC830 manufacturer grade. Designed for the Cut-Grip series, it features a 2.3 mm (0.0906 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.5 mm (0.1378 inch). The insert is finished with a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating, which provides heat resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. With a neutral hand orientation and a positive 7-degree rake angle, this double-ended insert delivers controlled chip flow on demanding workpiece materials. It is held in position by a clamp-style toolholder and carries a 0.20 mm (0.0080 inch) corner radius for precise groove profiling.
This insert is engineered for grooving, parting, and turning operations where the primary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium, as well as general steel applications. The IC830 grade and PVD AlTiN and TiN coating combination make it particularly well suited for high-temperature alloys found in aerospace, energy, and industrial component machining. It is used in CNC turning centers and lathes where the Cut-Grip toolholder system is installed. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments handling difficult-to-machine materials will find this insert appropriate for those demanding cuts.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIG insert style with size code 230020. Compatible workpiece material classifications include superalloys, titanium, and steel, corresponding to ISO material codes M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered off and spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to seat the insert securely without over-tightening. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before resuming machine operation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp.
