The ISCAR 6405020 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for high-performance grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the GIMY1260Y geometry with an IC830 grade and a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating, making it well suited for cutting superalloys and titanium. The cutting width is 12 mm with a full-radius corner radius of 6 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 6 mm. The neutral hand orientation and positive 7-degree rake angle promote smooth chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for grooving, parting, and profiling applications in both production-shop and job-shop turning environments. It is particularly effective on difficult-to-machine materials classified under ISO material groups M, P, and S, which include stainless steels, carbon steels, and superalloys such as Inconel and titanium alloys. The clamp-held mounting method is compatible with Cut-Grip toolholders designed for the 1260 insert size. It is a multi-use tool capable of grooving and turning in a single setup where toolholder geometry allows.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIMY 1260 insert size. Suited for ISO material groups M, P, and S, covering carbon steels, stainless steels, superalloys, and titanium as indicated in the product specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert correctly — do not overtighten or substitute non-OEM clamping screws. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or damage before seating the new insert. Follow your facility's tooling change procedure and applicable machine safety standards.
