The ISCAR 6405014 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GDMN808N geometry with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.315 inch cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.126 inches. The IC830 grade substrate is applied with a PVD-deposited AlTiN and TiN coating, a combination engineered for high heat resistance and edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees reduces cutting forces, making this insert well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface quality and tool life matter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert as part of standard tooling maintenance.
This insert is rated for use on superalloys and titanium as the primary workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M, P, and S. Those material groups represent some of the most thermally and mechanically demanding cutting conditions in aerospace, medical device, and energy component machining. The Cut-Grip clamping system holds the insert securely under interrupted cuts and high side loads. The chip breaker designation N provides an open, neutral chip flow geometry appropriate for a range of feed rates. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series grooving and parting toolholders that accept the GDMN 808 insert size. Confirm holder pocket geometry and insert size code 808 before installation. No additional model-specific compatibility data was provided in the product input.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and energy-isolated state per standard lockout-tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the Cut-Grip clamp pocket and verify the clamping screw or lever is secured to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming any spindle operation. Inspect the insert seating pocket for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut of 0.126 inches, as overloading the insert can cause sudden edge fracture.
