The ISCAR 6404374 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by insert style GIF and grade IC807, this double-ended insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating that extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width measures 8 mm with a maximum depth of cut of 4.8 mm, making it well suited for moderate-depth grooving applications. The IC807 submicron carbide grade delivers consistent edge integrity under interrupted and continuous cut conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
The 6404374 insert belongs to the ISCAR Cut-Grip series and is classified for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. This broad material range makes it applicable in job shops and production facilities running steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloys. The neutral hand orientation allows use on standard front-mounted toolholders. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees promotes free cutting action and reduces cutting forces on workpiece and spindle. It is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 10 units per purchase.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders and clamping systems that accept GIF-style inserts with an 800080 insert size designation. Compatible across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S workpiece materials per manufacturer classification.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the clamping screw and insert pocket are free of chips and debris before installation, as contamination will affect seating accuracy and edge life. Always confirm the correct insert orientation and hand designation for the toolholder before engaging the workpiece.
