The ISCAR 6404351 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GIF insert style with size code 590020, it carries the IC808 grade — a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 5.90 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 13.00 mm, and an overall length of 15.30 mm. The chip breaker geometry is designated F, with a positive rake angle of 7 degrees and a corner radius of 0.20 mm. This is a double-ended insert, maximizing usable cutting edges per unit. It is seated and secured by clamp-style insert holding within compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications in both roughing and finishing contexts across universal workpiece material groups, including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S). It is appropriate for use in production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth control are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard radial grooving setups. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance machine shops will find this insert applicable to a broad range of turned components.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping-style grooving toolholders that accept GIF insert style with size code 590020. Specific holder compatibility should be confirmed against the ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholder program using insert style GIF and insert size 590020.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating. Confirm clamp torque using the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert edge condition before each use and index or replace the insert when wear exceeds acceptable limits for the application.
