The ISCAR 6404331 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIMF508F geometry with an IC830 grade substrate and a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating for elevated heat resistance and wear life. The insert delivers a 5 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 3 mm, making it well suited for consistent, repeatable groove profiles. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and an F chip breaker geometry promote controlled chip evacuation during interrupted or continuous cuts. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert as a single-ended, clamp-held replacement in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining superalloys and titanium alloys, workpiece materials classified under ISO material codes M, P, and S. Those applications demand a coating and substrate combination capable of handling high cutting temperatures and abrasive chip loads. Typical use scenarios include aerospace component turning, medical implant part production, and other precision industries where tight groove tolerances and surface finish are critical. This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert size, as overloading can cause insert fracture or toolholder damage.
