The ISCAR 6404263 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIP400060E insert style with a manufacturer grade of IC808, a PVD-applied multilayer coating of AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN that provides heat resistance and extended tool life in interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a 4 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.4 mm, and a 0.60 mm corner radius. A positive 7-degree rake angle and neutral hand orientation suit it for a wide range of turning setups. Installation is performed by clamp holding method.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is well suited to production turning environments where a single insert grade must handle multiple material transitions without grade changes. The Cut-Grip series is widely used in medium to high-volume turning applications where consistent groove geometry and tight depth control are required. The chip breaker style E geometry supports controlled chip formation across this broad material range.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GIP-style grooving inserts with a 400060 insert size designation. Verify toolholder compatibility with the GIP insert style before installation.
Grooving inserts of this type are installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct clamping screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification and inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before clamping. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut, as overloading a grooving insert significantly increases the risk of insert fracture.
