The ISCAR 6404107 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC808 grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multi-layer coating, this insert delivers elevated wear resistance and heat tolerance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a 3 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 13 mm, and a double-end configuration that extends usable insert life. The self-grip holding method secures the insert mechanically without additional clamping hardware, making indexing fast and repeatable on production runs.
This insert is suited for general-purpose turning applications in both light manufacturing and high-volume production environments. The IC808 submicron carbide grade and universal material compatibility code (H, K, M, P, S) make it appropriate for machining steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys. The positive rake geometry and P chip breaker promote efficient chip evacuation, particularly in interrupted cuts and medium-to-heavy feed applications. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary installers of this insert type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard grooving insert for Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GIP-style inserts with a 300E040 size code.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped, spindle locked, and power isolated. Use the appropriate insert seating tool or wedge key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert fully in the self-grip pocket. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable ANSI or ISO cutting tool standards when handling carbide inserts.
