The ISCAR 6404104 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIMF406F geometry in grade IC808, this insert features a 4 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.4 mm, making it suited for controlled-width groove profiles in production turning. The IC808 grade is applied with a multilayer PVD coating combining AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The F chip breaker geometry and a positive 7-degree rake angle promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Cut-Grip series and is positioned as a single-end, clamp-held insert compatible with matching Cut-Grip toolholders. It is rated for universal primary workpiece material application, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, which includes steels, stainless steels, cast irons, hardened materials, and superalloys. The GIMF insert style with size code 406 and a 0.60 mm corner radius suits moderate-tolerance groove finishing and roughing passes where controlled depth and width are critical. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units per purchase.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIMF insert style in size 406. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S per ISO 13399 classification.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Before seating the insert, ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris. Secure the insert using the appropriate clamping screw torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify tool overhang and depth-of-cut settings against the 2.4 mm maximum depth rating before beginning a cut cycle.
