The ISCAR 6404097 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIMY808Y designation and IC808 grade, this insert features an 8 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.80 mm. The submicron carbide substrate is finished with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at cutting speeds typical of production turning. The self-grip insert holding method locks the insert securely in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and face grooving across a wide range of workpiece materials. The IC808 grade and universal primary workpiece material rating make it applicable to steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and nonferrous materials. The positive rake geometry at 7 degrees and the Y-style chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation in both light and moderate material removal applications. An 0.80 mm corner radius reduces edge stress at the start of cut. The single-end configuration means the insert is indexed or discarded when the cutting edge is worn.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIMY 808 insert size. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S per the manufacturer specification. Conforms to ISO 13399 insert identification standards.
Installation and insert changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures in place. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use manufacturer-specified torque guidelines for any clamping screws on the toolholder body. Inspect the insert seating for full contact before resuming cutting operations.
