The ISCAR 6404080 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIMF608F insert style designation with an IC8250 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied Al2O3 coating for wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert provides a 6 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.6 mm, making it well suited for medium-depth grooving passes. With a positive rake angle of 7 degrees and an F chip breaker geometry, it promotes controlled chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. A licensed machinist or CNC turning specialist typically installs and indexes this insert during tooling setup.
This insert is intended for grooving stainless steel and steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with straight-in grooving operations without directional bias. Its single-end configuration and clamp-style holding method are standard for Cut-Grip toolholders. The F chip breaker geometry targets materials that generate stringy or work-hardening chips, common in stainless steel turning. It is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 10 units, as is standard practice for indexable carbide inserts in this product family.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept GIMF-style inserts with an 608 insert size code. Verify holder compatibility against ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholder specifications before ordering.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle stopped and all axis motion locked out per the machine tool manufacturer lockout procedure. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping key or torx wrench specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to seat and secure the insert without overtightening the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as insert fracture during a cut presents a serious safety hazard.
