The ISCAR 6404065 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIMF508F geometry in grade IC8250, this insert features a 5 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 3 mm, and a PVD-applied Al2O3 coating that provides thermal resistance and edge stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The IC8250 grade is formulated for demanding applications involving stainless steel and steel workpieces. With a positive rake angle of 7 degrees and an F-style chip breaker, the insert promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. It is installed using a clamp-style holding method compatible with the Cut-Grip tooling system.
This insert is intended for single-end use in the Cut-Grip series tooling system, targeting metalworking professionals running grooving or parting operations on stainless steel and carbon steel materials. Typical applications include external groove profiling on turned components in job shops, production machining facilities, and tool rooms. The neutral hand orientation allows for straightforward setup without directional restrictions. The F chip breaker geometry is suited for medium-feed finishing and light roughing passes where controlled chip formation is critical to surface finish and tool life.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GIMF 508 insert size. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, disengage the spindle, confirm the machine is in an e-stop or lockout state, and allow any cutting zone to cool. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release the clamping screw, seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces, and re-torque the clamp fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
