The ISCAR 6404027 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the MIUR insert style with a neutral hand orientation, this insert features a 1.5 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.5 mm, making it well suited for fine grooving and parting work in tight clearance applications. The IC908 grade substrate is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators using clamp or screw holding methods.
This insert belongs to the ISCAR Min-Cut series, engineered for small-diameter and minimal-clearance grooving applications. With a universal primary workpiece material classification, it is rated for use across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, general steels, stainless steels, and superalloys. The full-radius geometry with a 0.75 mm corner radius produces clean groove profiles. Typical applications include grooving on Swiss-type lathes, multi-spindle turning centers, and standard CNC turning machines where narrow groove widths are required.
Designed for use in MIUR-style grooving toolholders that accept the 8150075 insert size with clamp or screw holding. Compatible with toolholders requiring a 0.319 inch bore diameter seating. Verify toolholder specification against the ISCAR Min-Cut series holder lineup before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque tool per the toolholder manufacturer specifications when securing via clamp or screw — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and alignment.
