The ISCAR 6403937 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN and TiN PVD coating applied over a submicron carbide substrate in the IC907 grade, providing wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 15.30 mm (approximately 0.602 inches) in overall length with a 3.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.20 mm. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and a 0.20 mm corner radius support clean chip formation and surface finish. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct replacement in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Cut-Grip series, a system engineered for grooving and parting applications in production turning environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for both left- and right-hand grooving setups depending on the toolholder configuration. The IC907 grade is rated for universal application across workpiece material groups including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys. It is appropriate for light to moderate depth grooving passes in both roughing and finishing contexts where dimensional consistency is critical.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIMN 302 insert size. Compatible with universal workpiece material groups as identified by ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, and superalloys.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping key or torx driver specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to secure the clamp — do not overtighten by feel alone; follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and repeatable tool-tip position.
