The ISCAR 6403488 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the V-Lock series, designed for turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to XNUW insert style in size code 130505, it delivers a 0.5118-inch (13.00 mm) cutting width with a neutral hand orientation and a positive 7-degree rake angle. The IC08 uncoated carbide grade is optimized for non-ferrous metal cutting, making it well suited for aluminum, copper, brass, and similar materials where coating adhesion or built-up edge would be concerns. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct component in compatible V-Lock toolholders.
This insert is intended for grooving, parting, and profiling of non-ferrous workpiece materials in both light production and job-shop turning environments. The uncoated IC08 grade performs at the cutting speeds and feeds typical for non-ferrous alloys without the coating delamination risk that can occur with aluminum at elevated surface footage. Its 60-degree included angle geometry and positive rake support clean chip evacuation in shallow to medium-depth groove applications. Suitable for residential shop environments as well as high-volume production turning lines where consistent groove width tolerance is required.
Designed for use in ISCAR V-Lock series grooving toolholders accepting XNUW-style inserts in size 130505. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against ISCAR V-Lock system toolholder documentation prior to ordering.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret or toolpost locked out before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not use impact tools. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout performance.
