The ISCAR 6403201 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the IC908 grade using a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a 2.47 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 9.00 mm, and a positive rake angle of 8 degrees. The double-end design maximizes tool life per insert. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production turning environments will find this insert compatible with standard clamp-style toolholders in the Cut-Grip series.
This insert is suited for both light-duty and medium-duty grooving applications in residential shop, production, and contract machining environments. Its universal primary workpiece material classification covers ISO material groups P, M, K, H, and S, meaning it handles carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, hardened materials, and superalloys within appropriate cutting parameters. The neutral hand orientation makes it usable in either direction without repositioning. It is particularly well-suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles where consistent width and corner radius are critical to part quality.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the GEPI insert style in size code 247020. Compatible with ISO material groups P, M, K, H, and S per ISO 13399 classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp to ensure proper contact and prevent micro-movement during cutting. Inspect the pocket and clamp surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw, as over-tightening can cause insert or pocket damage.
