The ISCAR 6403192 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the GDMW24W geometry and IC908 grade, a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. Cutting width is 2.4 mm (0.0945 inches), maximum depth of cut is 18 mm (0.7087 inches), and cutting height is 5.5 mm (0.2165 inches). The self-grip holding method locks the insert securely in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and the W chip breaker geometry promote controlled chip evacuation across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for grooving, recessing, and cut-off applications in both light and medium-duty turning operations. The IC908 grade with TiAlN finish is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials as reflected in the ISO material group codes P, M, K, H, and S. It is used in production turning environments by machinists and toolroom technicians running moderate-to-high cutting speeds where wear resistance and edge stability are priorities. The neutral hand orientation means the insert is suitable for standard right-to-left feed direction cuts.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GDMW insert style, size code 24. Compatible workpiece material groups per ISO designation: P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), H (hardened materials), and S (high-temperature alloys). Verify toolholder pocket specification before ordering.
Insert seating and removal should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate ISCAR Cut-Grip insert key or extraction tool to seat and remove the insert without damaging the self-grip pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
