The ISCAR 6403185 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GIM5C insert style with an IC908 grade, this single-end insert features a TiAlN PVD coating over a submicron carbide substrate, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width measures 0.1969 inches (5.00 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0157 inches (0.40 mm). A positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces and helps control chip flow. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments install this insert as part of the Cut-Grip tooling system.
This insert is suited for grooving, undercutting, and parting on ferrous metals, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steels, heat-resistant superalloys, and cast materials. The universal primary workpiece material rating covers ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, making it a versatile choice across job shop and production settings. The C chip breaker geometry is matched to moderate feed grooving applications. The insert seats into compatible Cut-Grip style holders and is a multi-use tool capable of performing both grooving and turning passes in a single setup.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GIM5C style inserts. Compatible with CNC turning applications across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as indicated by the IC908 universal grade designation.
This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secure and de-energized per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert; do not overtighten the clamp screw by hand force alone. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure full, stable contact.
