The ISCAR 6402829 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a neutral hand orientation with a 0.1252-inch cutting width and a 0.0079-inch corner radius. The positive rake geometry and 8-degree rake angle promote clean chip formation and reduce cutting forces. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
The 6402829 insert suits universal applications and is rated for use on ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is suited to both light and moderate grooving passes in production turning environments where consistent groove width and surface finish are required. The GIPI 3.18-0.20 designation identifies the insert geometry within the Cut-Grip platform. Overall insert length is 0.618 inches, keeping the footprint compact in close-clearance tooling setups.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIPI 3.18-0.20 insert geometry. Material grade compatibility includes ISO groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. No additional compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel on CNC or manual turning equipment. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to avoid insert movement or damage to the clamping slot. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or contamination before seating a new insert.
