The ISCAR 6402825 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precise external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN PVD coating over a submicron carbide substrate in grade IC908, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 0.1063 inches (2.70 mm), the corner radius is 0.0039 inches (0.10 mm), and the rake angle is 8 degrees positive. The insert uses a double-end configuration with a clamp-style holding method and a P-style chip breaker. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or production turning environments will specify this insert for repeatable groove geometry and reliable chip control.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened materials, and high-temperature alloys. The neutral hand orientation makes it straightforward to position in standard Cut-Grip toolholders. It is well suited to both light-production and high-mix turning applications where a single insert grade needs to handle varied material types without a toolholder change. The double-end design extends usable insert life before disposal.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept GIPI-style grooving inserts with a 270010 insert size code. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket specifications before installation.
Installation of grooving inserts is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the clamping screw and insert pocket are free of chips and debris before seating the insert to achieve proper registration and avoid micro-fracture of the cutting edge. Inspect the chip breaker and cutting edges under magnification before use; do not install an insert with visible edge damage.
