The ISCAR 6402823 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Cut-Grip series standard, it features a self-grip insert holding method that provides secure seating without additional clamping hardware. The insert carries the IC908 grade designation, a submicron-grain solid carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a cutting width of 1.57 mm (0.062 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.69 mm (0.106 inches), it is suited to tight-tolerance groove profiles where dimensional consistency is critical. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range includes hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. It is intended for use in production turning environments where a single insert grade must perform reliably across mixed-material job schedules. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard straight-approach grooving toolholders in the Cut-Grip system.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIP-style inserts with size code 157015. Compatible across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as designated by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked out before seating or replacing the insert. The self-grip pocket should be inspected for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure full contact and accurate positioning. Consult the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for recommended cutting parameters; do not exceed the stated maximum depth of cut range for this insert size.
