The ISCAR 6402816 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This double-ended insert carries the GIP247020P geometry with a 2.47 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 5.00 mm. The IC908 carbide grade features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers thermal resistance and edge durability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The positive rake angle of 7 degrees reduces cutting forces and supports clean chip formation. Machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders as part of routine insert replacement or production tooling setup.
This insert is suited for both production and job-shop turning environments where controlled groove width and repeatable depth of cut are required. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard straight-cut grooving applications. The P chip breaker geometry promotes chip control during continuous grooving passes. Compatible workpiece materials span multiple ISO material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by the material grade codes C1, C2, C6, C7 and ISO workpiece codes H, K, M, P, and S.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIP-style inserts with the 247020 insert size code. Workpiece material compatibility covers ISO groups H, K, M, P, and S per the ISO 13399 standard.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC tooling technicians during scheduled tooling changes or when wear limits are reached. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamping key for the Cut-Grip toolholder to secure the insert to the manufacturer-specified clamping procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
