The ISCAR 6402812 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the GIP318020P geometry with a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 13 mm. It is finished with a TiAlN PVD coating and uses the IC908 manufacturer grade, which is suited for universal workpiece materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers specify this insert for tight-tolerance groove profiles requiring consistent chip control.
This insert is intended for use in grooving and parting applications across a range of workpiece materials designated under ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. The neutral hand orientation and double-end configuration make it adaptable to both left- and right-hand toolholder arrangements. The P chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation in medium-duty grooving operations. The insert is sized as GIP 318020 and fits Cut-Grip compatible toolholders designed for that insert size code.
Designed to fit Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIP 318020 insert size code. Compatible with workpiece materials in ISO groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and superalloys. This insert conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert in the toolholder. Confirm the insert is fully seated and the clamping screw is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert edge condition at regular intervals; do not continue running a chipped or worn edge, as this risks workpiece damage and toolholder wear.
