The ISCAR 6402810 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the GDMY840Y geometry with an IC908 grade substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, combining submicron carbide with a wear-resistant finish for consistent performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation suits standard radial grooving setups. With an 8 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 25 mm, this insert handles medium to deep groove profiles in a single-pass or multi-pass strategy.
The 6402810 is suited for external and face grooving applications on ferrous metals, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steels, and superalloys. Its universal primary workpiece material classification covers ISO material groups P, M, K, H, and S, making it a flexible choice across job-shop and production environments. The full-radius corner profile at 4 mm and the positive 7-degree rake angle reduce cutting forces and help control chip flow. The Y-type chip breaker geometry supports chip management in interrupted and continuous cuts alike. Clamp-style insert holding keeps the insert securely seated under side and axial loading.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Cut-Grip series grooving toolholders that accept the GDMY insert style in the 840 size code. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping key or torx wrench specified for the toolholder to secure the clamp - do not substitute fastener tools. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and prevent premature edge failure.
