The ISCAR 6402797 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a 10 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 6 mm. A positive rake geometry with a 7-degree rake angle and an F-style chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving applications across universal workpiece materials including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, as indicated by material grade codes C1, C2, C6, and C7 and ISO workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The Cut-Grip series is commonly applied in medium to high-volume turning operations where consistent groove geometry and dimensional repeatability are required. The 0.80 mm corner radius and single-end design make it appropriate for precision groove profiles where edge geometry must remain predictable across a full production run.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for ISCAR Cut-Grip series grooving toolholders accepting GIF-style inserts with a 1000080 insert size designation. Verify toolholder seat specifications before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down the machine and engage the spindle lock before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder seat for chips or wear before seating the new insert, as debris on the seating surface will affect insert stability and groove accuracy.
