The ISCAR 6402788 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIP300020P designation and IC908 manufacturer grade, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 3.00 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm, making it suited for shallow, precision groove profiles. The TiAlN coating is applied via PVD process, delivering high surface hardness and thermal resistance during interrupted or continuous cuts. The double-ended geometry extends usable tool life per insert. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees with a P-type chip breaker promotes controlled chip evacuation across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Cut-Grip series, which is engineered for grooving and turning applications in both light-production and high-volume CNC turning environments. The IC908 grade targets universal workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard radial grooving setups. A corner radius of 0.20 mm provides a controlled blend radius at the groove floor without excessive stress concentration.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series grooving toolholders that accept the GIP insert style with size code 300020. Compatible with workpiece material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7 as well as ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S.
Installation of indexable grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with machine power fully off and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw key specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to secure the insert to the recommended torque range stated in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating. Never operate the insert beyond its stated maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm to avoid insert fracture or toolholder damage.
