The ISCAR 6402785 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, carrying the manufacturer grade designation IC908 with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish. It delivers a 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm (0.0709 inches), making it well suited for precise, shallow grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 7 degrees, and a corner radius of 0.40 mm (0.0157 inches). It is a double-end design, giving machinists two usable cutting edges before replacement. Installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this insert is intended for production grooving where consistent finish and dimensional control are required.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys, making it applicable across a broad range of production turning environments. The E chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow at the cutting zone. Typical applications include external and internal grooving, parting prep, and undercut work on bar-fed turning centers or chuck work in job-shop and production environments. The IC908 grade, applied via PVD, is optimized for interrupted cuts and materials that demand a tough, wear-resistant edge.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIP 300040 insert size. Material grade compatibility covers ISO groups C1, C2, C6, and C7, corresponding to ISO workpiece codes H, K, M, P, and S. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists following standard insert indexing procedures for Cut-Grip style toolholders. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as solid carbide inserts are brittle under improper clamping load. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
