The ISCAR 6402600 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIPA500040PA designation and IC20 uncoated grade. It belongs to the Cut-Grip series, a clamped insert platform designed for external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 5.00 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm, and a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for straight-in grooving without directional bias. With a positive 7-degree rake angle and PA chip breaker geometry, the insert promotes controlled chip formation across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S. That range spans cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. The double-end configuration allows both edges to be used before the insert is discarded, which reduces per-part tooling cost in high-volume grooving applications. It is well suited to tight-tolerance groove profiles where corner radius control matters; the 0.40 mm corner radius keeps edge geometry consistent from edge to edge.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Cut-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the GIPA insert style with size code 500040. Confirm toolholder seat dimensions and clamping style before installation.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or improper seating; refer to the toolholder manufacturer torque specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Verify programmed depth-of-cut does not exceed the insert maximum before running the first part.
