The ISCAR 6402471 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GTMA insert style with an IC508 submicron carbide grade, it features a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating that provides wear resistance and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert delivers a 1.75 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm, making it well suited for precision grooving in tight tolerance applications. It mounts via a self-grip holding method for secure, repeatable positioning on compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is intended for right-hand grooving applications on metalcutting lathes in both production and job-shop environments. The IC508 grade with universal material code coverage supports use on carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, and high-temperature alloys, making it a versatile choice for shops working across multiple material families. Typical applications include external grooving, undercut profiling, and part-off work on small to medium diameter workpieces where a narrow 1.75 mm groove width is required.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GTMA-style inserts. ISO catalog designation is GTMA 16ER/IL 175. Verify toolholder compatibility using the ISO code and ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholder selection guides before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with CNC turning toolholder systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool geometry.
