The ISCAR 6402259 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GIM38A style with an IC354 grade and PVD-applied TiCN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and edge stability in demanding cutting environments. The right-hand orientation and 0.1181-inch (3.00 mm) cutting width make it suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles. The positive rake geometry and 7-degree rake angle reduce cutting forces, supporting clean chip formation on difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered for grooving stainless steel and steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. The GIM series Cut-Grip platform accepts clamp or screw holding methods, making it compatible with a range of Cut-Grip toolholders used in external grooving applications. The chip breaker designation A and the 0.0098-inch (0.25 mm) corner radius support controlled chip evacuation in medium-depth grooving passes. It is a single-end insert intended for high-volume production turning as well as precision component work where groove geometry tolerance is critical.
Designed for use in Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIM-style inserts with an insert size code of 38, utilizing clamp or screw holding. Optimized for primary workpiece materials stainless steel and steel (ISO material groups M and P).
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is securely mounted before seating or replacing the insert. Verify the clamp or screw holding mechanism is tightened to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the insert seat and clamp pocket for chips or debris prior to installation to maintain accurate insert positioning.
