The ISCAR 6402141 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision groove-turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This single-end insert carries the GIM4W geometry with an IC354 grade, a PVD-applied TiCN coating, and a neutral hand orientation. The cutting width measures 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm), making it well suited to tight-tolerance groove applications. The IC354 grade is engineered for performance on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces, and the positive rake angle of 7 degrees reduces cutting forces and heat generation at the edge. Machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders as a direct replacement.
This insert is intended for metalworking operations on stainless steel and steel in both production and job-shop turning environments. The W chip breaker geometry assists in controlling chip flow on ductile materials, reducing the risk of chip packing in the groove. With a positive rake and PVD TiCN coating, the insert is particularly effective in finishing and semi-finishing groove passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The multi-use designation indicates it can be applied across grooving, parting, and related cut-off operations where the GIM4W profile is appropriate.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIM style inserts with a size code of 4. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO code M) and steel (ISO code P). Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped before insert exchange. Seat the insert firmly in the Cut-Grip pocket and verify clamping force per the toolholder manufacturer guidance before resuming cuts. Inspect the pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the replacement insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool OEM guidelines when changing inserts on live tooling setups.
