The ISCAR 6402108 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GIPA400040PA geometry in the IC20 uncoated carbide grade, this insert delivers a 3.99 mm (0.157 inches) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.094 inches). The double-ended, self-grip design allows both ends of the insert to be used before replacement, extending tool life and reducing cost per edge. A positive 7-degree rake angle promotes clean chip formation across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving and cut-off applications in both light production and high-mix turning environments. It is compatible with universal workpiece material groups including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, and heat-resistant alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, N, and S. The PA chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control at moderate feed rates. The insert belongs to the Cut-Grip series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards, making it compatible with Cut-Grip series toolholders designed for GIPA-style inserts.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GIPA-style inserts. Compatible with ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, and S as specified by the manufacturer. ISO code GIPA 4.00-0.40 as listed in the manufacturer catalog.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the Cut-Grip toolholder pocket and confirm the self-grip mechanism is engaged before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the manufacturer-specified depth of cut range for this insert geometry.
